I thought i'd make a debate about a common arguement.

Should Cigarettes be illegal or not?

There are two sides to this arguement.

So i'm not bias, I will give an arguement for both sides.

Why they should be illegal: There is a lot of reasons why they should be illegal, the first being that they kill people. You hear almost every day about that person who got cancer and died because they smoked. My own uncle died of lung cancer because he smoked. If they were illegal, then maybe people would stop dying. Another one is that even if you don't smoke, if you are around people that do, then technically you are a passive smoker, because you breathe in the smoke of their cigarette, and because you are not used to the smoke, the risk of getting cancer may be slightly greater, although this has not yet been proved.

Why they shouldn't be illegal: While there are a lot of reason to make cigarettes illegal, there are also a few reasons why they shouldn't. One reason is that people say that people that smoke are entitled to smoke, because it is their choice. Other people say, that making them illegal will only make more people want to smoke, for the rush that comes with taking a risk. Others say that only banning cigarettes is not helping the problem, its only putting a band-aid on it, because eventually something else will be created to replace them.

very true on both sides. I think that all smoking should never be around children because of second-hand. I mean people around smoker's have to breathe it without a filter for god sakes.

Im 15, but I live in a bad neighborhood, and I had the wrong friends. I tried it once, like everyone else, I thought, "Hey, I'll just have one". It never is just one. Both my parents smoke, so there was a greater chance that I would too. Smoking is the worst thing possible. It does cause lung cancer, among others, and it does kill. But it's also a great stress reliever.

But smoking is bad.

as much as i hate cigarettes, i think it should b legal. i am glad that pittsburgh has banned indoor smoking in public places (restarants/malls/bars). all places should b like that.

I think it should it should be everyone's choice if they want to smoke but i think it should be regulated like hinata said. its that way in austin texas you cant even smoke in a bar! thank god it was like getting instant cancer
